Morsels & The Shelf Life

Review: Red Rooster Cheeseburger & Battered Corn Wheels

ย don’t see what all the fuss is about Nutella and the thought of a Whopper with gravy makes me gag, so my fast food $ this week goes to Red Rooster. And let’s not forget Macca’s is about to step things up with the McGriddles and Big Arch.

The new Red Rooster cheeseburger features two tenders, a cheese slice and a “smokey cheese sauce” (I added a slice of bacon). I found the smoke flavour rather overpowering with no cheese to be found in the sauce, despite the intense yellow.

If I’d been told it was BBQ-flavoured mayonnaise I wouldn’t have argued. Overall it’s a decent burger and if you like smokey flavour, you’ll probably enjoy this.

I was also intrigued by the new battered corn wheels, which sounds like one of those things you didn’t know you needed. And you don’t, really. They are morishly crunchy but the flavour of the corn is lost, and the end-result is guilt, shame and regret for all the wasted fat and calories.

Would I eat them again? Yes, definitely.

  • Me too and Iโ€™ve just found out Iโ€™m diabetic and I shouldnโ€™t be eating them but as no one else wanted them I ate them all and would again and again.
