I first met Libby Peasley, chef and owner of Two Dogs Laughing, when she worked for Leigh Nash, former owner and creator of Dingo Sauce Co (famously dubbed the Willy Wonka of hot sauce by Justin Timberlake on Hot Ones) at Vans in Cottesloe.
Libby’s cafe Two Dogs Laughing started its life in a rather odd half-car-park location South of Freo where the food spoke for itself. A unique Perth breakfast destination, Libby’s knack for Asian flavours always made for interesting dining in a friendly, community-friendly setting. Dishes such as the Umami Scram, a celebration of WA red chillies and pastured eggs, were regular entries in the annual Buy West East Best “Plating up WA” competition.
Fast forward to 2022 and Two Dogs Laughing moved to a new, permanent home on South Street in Beaconsfield, just outside of Freo. The new cafe is spacious but retained the feel of the original with furniture, knick-knacks and murals that make it feel welcoming and relaxed.

The menu contains house-made, interesting twists on a range of crowd-pleasers. Sweet or savoury, you’ll find something here to enjoy. The savoury highlight of the current menu is “Benny and the Jets”, a take on the Perth-cliched eggs Benedict with steamed, smoked and twice fried spuds – some of the best I’ve had in Perth.

Decent pancakes are tricky to find in Perth, and these tick all the boxes. See the current cafe and catering menus here.

There’s also a well-stocked counter and cabinet filled with house-made cakes, sandwiches and pastries so you’re sure to find something. Libby even makes her own hot sauce which can be added to your favourite dish or purchased to spice up your home cooking,

Coffee is from Fremantle roaster Little Owl and Libby has made her own mark on the strawberry matcha trend with a delightful drink that includes home-made matcha ice cream. It’s been a while since I had one, but I’ve always remembered how good the salted caramel milkshakes are.
Two Dogs Laughing is highly recommended for breakfast and lunch.

Libby has run several themed dinner events in the cafe and I was fortunate enough to attend a Thai- themed one in 2023 that offered some excellent food. Follow Two Dogs Laughing on socials and stay tuned for news of future special events. Highly recommended for breakfast and lunch.
