Morsels & The Shelf Life

The Shelf Life Review: Doritos Coffee

Okay, here we go with the new Doritos Coffee flavour. And no, they’re not a joke. According to my packet, this isย number 199 out of a very limited 500 in the first batch (assuming they are actually numbered separately). They’re not on general sale, so don’t bother looking in the shops.

Opening the packet, the smell is a curious combination of plain corn chips, instant coffee and churros. How can I describe the taste? It’s like dehydrating an iced coffee and dusting a chip with it. It’s mostly about the bitter but there’s some sweet too. It’s all a bit weird and ultimately rather dry.

A positive is that they actually deliver on the flavour promise, unlike many Australian chips; whether you like them or not is another matter (much like the Walkers Brussels Sprouts).

As for keeping you awake, the ingredients list has coffee powder at 0.4% so I think your barista can stay in business for a while yet. An interesting experiment.

  • I love coffee. I quite like Doritos.
I loath these chips. I had to try them once, I mean… it sounds so unusual, I just had to try them.
I consider them revolting. I tried one and binned the rest.

Others might enjoy them more of course. My expectation is that they won’t be around long, so if you do want to try them, make it quick.
