The Road Trip Habits that Make Travel so Much Easier

Okay, so everyone loves the idea of a road trip, right? Well, seriously, who wouldn’t? Like, there’s that road trip playlist that you can count on being nostalgic (mainly filled with 90s and 2000s music you’ll sing out loud to, there’s the snacks (the best part, cause you don’t feel guilty for eating junk food), and you absolutely can’t forget that sense of freedom. Maybe you’ll be camping during the road trip, maybe staying in hotels or Airbnbs, but you’ll be having an amazing time, and you know that for a fact!

Okay, now that all sounds amazing here, but give it a few hours and, well, chances are, it might not feel so amazing. Well, it’s never as picture-perfect as it looked in your head. Like, there’s empty coffee cups rolling around the floor (hopefully not), melted chocolate in the door pocket, and for whatever reason, it’s harder to charge a phone. Yeah, it gets messy fast. Alright, so instead of it being a giant mobile disaster, what can you actually do to prevent that?

It’s All in the Packing

It’s honestly best to just start right here. Alright, so there’s basically like this weird sense of optimism that hits before every trip. You tell yourself you’ll pack early, sleep early, and wake up refreshed. Now, how realistic is this for you? For some people, yeah, sure, it is, but not fr everyone, of course. So yeah, packing early is just smart, well, it’s that and it’s basically self-care too.

Besides, having your bag ready the day before means your brain isn’t melting the morning you leave. You actually get to start the trip feeling like a human, not like someone who sprinted out the door half-dressed. Wouldn’t you want that? Those little things start the tone of the trip; if one thing goes bad at the start, well, it usually just ruins the rest of the trip too.

You Need to Get Serious About Organisation

You don’t realise how chaotic cars can get until you’re ten minutes into a trip and can’t find anything. Where’s the snacks, the charger, the lip balm, the, well, everything you need? Now, this might come off as generic advice, you’ll just need to just organise everything in a proper way, it’s kind of up to you what will work best. People who road trip often swear by having their cars properly set up with smart storage, little compartments, or even custom setups. And so if that works for you, yeah, have at it!

If you even want to go the extra mile and upgrade your vehicles with canopy doors or side access storage, well, have at it too, since you won’t have to crawl to get gear out (especially if you’re camping). You just want to have some sort of setup that helps you during the trip, and, well, one that works, of course, too.

What Can You Do About the Physical Comfort?

As you might already know, long drives make everything ache, like your back, your legs, oh, and don’t forget your patience. So yeah, comfort matters. It might help to just bring a blanket, comfy clothes, and maybe a pillow that doesn’t feel like it was made of bricks.  Plus, it’s best to just clean out the car before you go too. It’s wild how much better everything feels when you’re not stepping on crumbs from last week.
