Morsels & The Shelf Life

The Best Kebab in Perth From Yalla Bala, Leederville

ast weekend I made a big call by saying that Yalla Bala’s kebab special was the best kebab I’ve ever eaten. Unlike many food accounts, that’s not the kind of statement I make lightly or say carelessly. A few days later and my opinion hasn’t changed. I felt it deserved better treatment than a half-chewed phone photo taken in my car, so I went back today armed with my camera.

Everything is made in-house, starting with the addictively chewy bread proudly baked by Benji. Lamb mince is pressed into the bread and then grilled. It’s topped with pomegranate molasses, crushed confit garlic, onion, herbs, cucumber, tomato (none for me here), chips and tahini. It’s then tightly rolled into a balanced, delicately spiced thing of beauty. No tatty lettuce to be found.

There’s a good chance the kebab will join Yalla Bala’s permanent menu, and I think that’s a good thing. At the very least, it’s available this weekend so don’t hang about if you really want to try it.

P.S. Hopefully my regular followers will realise that this post was not sponsored or paid for. I paid for my kebab as a regular customer – in the bucketing rain – having no idea how good it was going to be, but simply because I was curious. Discovering and sharing a dish like this is one of the reasons I do what I do.

If I’m ever gifted or invited I will declare it, but I will NEVER accept an obligation to be positive (or even to post, in some situations). That’s a huge red flag for me, and something that separates me from a lot of the “influencers” out there. Many of them don’t make it clear when something is free, and that’s been an ACCC requirement since I started nearly 15 years ago.
