Last weekend I was invited to the launch of Riverside Brewhouse, a new bar situated within The Old Brewery. I have a soft spot for The Old Brewery – I did get married there, after all – and was curious to know where the Brewhouse was located. As it turns out, the restaurant has been split in two, with a new bar-style menu added and brewing equipment exposed in the area that is now the Brewhouse.
The focus of the launch event was the new menu, and we were treated to a generous selection of the dishes on offer. The in-house brewed craft beer was flowing freely, as was cider from The Cidery in Bridgetown.
You can see the Brewhouse menu here. Joining the charcuterie & cheese selection are small plates great for sharing, including pickled octopus ($15.50), mac & cheese with truffle toast ($13.50) and poutine ($15). More substantial dishes include BBQ pork ribs with slaw & hand cut chips ($29 / $45), soft tacos (fried chicken, baha fish or smoked beef burnt ends – three for $28.50) and jerk half-chicken with coconut rice, black beans & grilled lime ($35).
My food highlight was the hot & sour chicken wings, which were moist and sticky with a decent chilli kick. Also great were the jamon & manchego croquettes, the pork ribs, the cheeseburger, the tacos…and so on. The wait-staff were all very friendly, and deserve a special thank you for being patient while an excessive number of photos were taken.
The Old Brewery has always been a great setting for a meal at any time of day (and ib any kind of weather), and the new Riverside Brewhouse is definitely worth checking out if you’re after a more casual drinking and dining experience than has previously been on offer.
The Riverside Brewhouse is open seven days a week, from 11am until late – see the Facebook page for more information.
