It’s the end of another term at the Australian College of Applied Education, and time for the cookery & patisserie students to complete their most challenging assessment: the buffet.
ACAEย used to hold one lunch time buffet each term for education & hospitality guests, however the growth in student numbers has resulted in the need for more than one event. This time around, three groups ofย students each prepared aย street food buffet – one for school guests, one open to the public ($20 for all-you-can-eat) and the third was handed over to a group of sixty hungry foodies.
The college cafe was converted into a series of internationally themed food stations, featuringย sweet & savoury dishes from around the globe. The largest queues were at the American stand where the duck neck burgers and citrus marshmallows were the most popular dishes.ย My favourite for the evening was the British pork pie.
A large group of foodies can be hard to please – as well as tasting good, food has to look good enough for Instagram! Thankfullyย no-one went home disappointed. The guestsย were pleasantlyย surprisedย by the high quality of the food, and the students were able to interact withย customers who were genuinely interested in what they were eating, and the process behind making it. All in all a most enjoyable night!
