Quick breakfast review – Pixel Coffee Brewers, Leederville

Pixel CoffeePixel Coffee Brewers has only been open for a few months, but has done a great job of placing itself near the top of many Perth “must visit” lists, including mine.Β If you’ve been anywhere near social media in the last few months you’ve probably seen a photo of at least one of their amazing cakes.

We arrived just after 7am on Saturday morning and were surprised that we were the only customers, especially since there was a stream of what appeared to be tradesmen and cyclists going in and out of the rather average looking Juggler Cafe directly opposite.Β  We wondered if it was because Pixel Coffee looks quite “feminine” inside (for want of a better word) and if so then they’re missing out. The fit out and styling of Pixel Coffee is quite beautiful, and there has been some serious attention to detail putting the whole place together.

Speaking of serious, most of the bench space is occupied by coffee paraphernalia and it showed in the quality of my two coffees (cappuccino and the long mac I left with). Coffee is from Melbourne roaster Seven Seeds.

Pixel CoffeeI was in the mood for something savoury but knew that I’d be able to pinch some of Renay’s meal so I chose the French toast with banana, chocolate mascarpone and blackberry syrup ($17.50).

Thankfully the dish wasn’t overly sweet, and I was concerned that the chocolate mascarpone would be too rich but it was actually very subtle and probably my favourite thing on the plate. It was beautifully presented, as you can see.

Pixel CoffeeRenay chose the “stormy mushrooms” ($20.90) with polenta, parmesan, poached eggs and kale chips. The mushrooms were very tasty (a little salty for my liking), poached eggs perfectly plump and the polenta smooth and warm. Yum.

Pixel Coffee is a little out of the main Leederville strip – although opposite The Re Store so hardly in the middle of nowhere – and unfortunately we were too early to see any of Pixel’s incredible looking cakes, but based on today’s experience we’ll definitely be back.

Everything we saw, ate and drank today was beautifully presented and of top quality. Pixel Coffee should definitely be on everybody’s “must visit” list.
