Throughout the month of June, venues across Western Australia will once again be serving up specially crafted dishes that celebrate the best of our local produce β all part of the annual Plating Up WA campaign.
I’ll be working my way through some of the dishes on offer during June, so keep an eye on my Instagram for reviews and pictures. I’ve listed some of my favourite picks below, and you can see the 16-page magazine published in The West Australian here.

Now in its seventh year, Plating Up WA is an initiative of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Developmentβs Buy West Eat Best program. The campaign highlights WAβs world-class food and beverage offerings and invites food lovers to experience them on a plate β from casual cafΓ©s and bustling pubs to fine-dining restaurants, wineries, and everything in between.
Over 30 days, participating venues will dish up unique menu items created using the freshest seasonal ingredients grown, farmed, fished, and produced right here in Western Australia. From breakfast to dessert, and bar bites to grazing boards, thereβs something to suit every palate and every budget.
Melissa Worthington, Program Manager for Buy West Eat Best, says the team is proud to continue the momentum of this beloved campaign:
βWeβre thrilled to bring Plating Up WA back for its seventh year. The campaign has supported more than 250 venues since it kicked off in 2018, and connected our talented chefs with a huge range of incredible local producers. Many of the ingredients showcased this year come directly from our Buy West Eat Best ingredient register or shopping list for chefs β itβs truly a collaborative effort between paddock, dock, plate and community.β
At the heart of the campaign is the commitment to support WAβs food, beverage, hospitality, and tourism sectors during the traditionally quieter winter months β a time when a boost is most welcome. In 2024, the Plating Up WA website achieved 18,000 unique visitors and social media channels achieving over 3 million impressions.
