Here’s an overdue set of photos from a fantastic meal at Cassia, the Australian barbecue-inspired restaurant helmed by chef Emily Jones (formerly from Republic of Fremantle). The open kitchen and wood-fired grill takes centre stage, and it’s clear that no expense was spared in the fit out; attention to detail runs as far as the Cassia logo on the ice cubes.
The food is well-priced, with a few high-end steaks if that’s your thing, but you don’t have to break the bank to dine here. Much of the joy is to be found in the side dishes (the potato gratin and sprouts in particular!).

Service is outstanding and the drinks list is extensive, with plenty of Australian wines to choose from by the glass and bottle. The cocktails are of particular interest, with custom takes on classics and a range based around the spirits of Rainfall Distillery.
Cassia is highly recommended, in particular a welcome new choice for a “special occasion” restaurant. @cassiafreo
