Perth Meets Peru at a Long Table Dinner!

Peruvian cuisine is something that I haven’t experienced before, so I was excited to be invited to a long table dinner being held in September by Perth Meets Peru, a group dedicated to bringing Peruvian food to the people of Perth.

Peruvian DinnerPeruvian cuisine is something that I haven’t experienced before, so I was excited to be invited to a long table dinner being held in September by Perth Meets Peru, a group dedicated to bringing Peruvian food to the people of Perth.

Host Esperanza Roberts and Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Luis Vergara started offering Peruvian cooking classes in Perth earlier this year, and the aim of this dinner is to introduce their food to those of us not so keen on getting our hands dirty!

peruvian_cuisineA little research reveals that the culinary history of Peruvian food dates back to the Inca and Pre-Inca times when the staple diet consisted of maize, potatoes and aromatic herbs, and was later influenced by the arrival of the Spanish conquerors.

Further influenced by immigrants from China, Europe, Africa and Japan, Peruvian cuisine features a rich combination of flavours, colours and aromas.

You can contact Esperanza by email or find out more information about the dinner and Peruvian cooking classes on the Perth meets Peru Facebook page.

I look forward to seeing you there!
