Perth breakfast review: The Office On Harrogate, West Leederville

The Office on HarrogateThe Office on Harrogate in West Leederville is a small bar & cafe that has been receiving some attention on social media, mainly thanks to an interesting new menu which you can see below. It’s located in a mostly commercial area just off of Cambridge Street, and not far from the well established cafe-trinity of Tracks, Hylin & Aliment.

The Office on Harrogate is open from 7am Monday to Friday and 8am on Saturdays. You have to pay for parking on the street, even at 8am on a Saturday when there isn’t a soul to be seen.

Office on HarrogateThe menu. The fondues for two are particularly interesting, especially the savoury one.

The Office on HarrogateThe bar / counter. Simple, but what more do you need?

The Office on HarrogateCoffee is from Five Senses, and was rather good this morning. No sugar in sight, but thankfully it wasn’t needed.

The Office on HarrogateI already knew what I was going to try – the “slow cooked morning ribs” with soft boiled eggs & sourdough ($24). I wasn’t quite sure what this would actually be, but was expecting something a little more breakfast-ified than a slightly-undercooked soft boiled egg (singular) sat in a piece of bread. I’ve seen photos that clearly show “eggs” so I’m not sure why I only got one.

The serving of beef ribs was very generous, but at $24 that’s to be expected. The tomato sauce was really rich and tasty, however the meat on the ribs was very tough and hard to eat. It might have been easier if I’d been eating the ribs with my fingers, but that’s not really how I want to eat meat at 8am. Disappointing.

The Office on HarrogateRenay chose the “Office Stack” ($19) with potato rosti, poached egg, bacon, spinach, avocado & hollandaise. There was plenty on the plate – three potato rosti most definitely make a “stack” – and the rest of the ingredients were all of good quality and well cooked, including the poached egg.

The Office on HarrogateSo a bit of a mixed bag for breakfast, unfortunately. I’m still curious to try the savoury fondue and tiramisu French toast, although there are plenty of other places on our list to try – and more we’re keen to return to – first.

We’ll definitely be going back toย The Office on Harrogate forย  the OZeating “Black Friday Sundowner” in November. I’m not sure if we’ll be back for breakfast.
