Perth breakfast review: Cafe 2 Twentyfour, Belmont

Cafe 2 TwentyFour

I lived in Cloverdale right next to Belmont Forum for over seven years in the late nineties, directly opposite from where Sapore Espresso Bar is, and it’s been interesting to see the area develop. There certainly weren’t any decent cafes in the area back then, and now there are two to choose from with the opening of Cafe 2 Twentyfour. It’s located in the shopping complexย across from the Forum that also includes Reading Cinemas.

Cafe 2 Twentyfour did a good job of announcingย their launchย on social media and as usual most of Perth’s foodie community headed there quickly, although theย pictures are continuing to flowย on Instagram. We went there early on theย Saturday morning of the opening week.

Cafe 2 TwentyFour

It’s a very welcoming place, plenty of seating inside & out and more importantly lots of light – I’m really sick of dark, uninviting cafes. There also seemed to be an abundance ofย friendly staff, whichย was a good thing to see.

Cafe 2 Twentyfourย is open from 7am to 3pm in the week and from 7:30am to 3pm on weekends.

Cafe 2 Twentyfour’sย supershakes had been getting a lot of attention, so I twisted my own arm and triedย a mocha one in lieu of my usual long mac ($9 –ย also available in Snickers, choc-honeycomb and strawberry & cream). Yum. A bit hard going for breakfast, but it was nicely flavoured, cold, and not too thick.

Don’t judge me, at least I picked the one with coffee in it.

We had trouble choosing what to have, which is always a good sign. The menu is very reasonably priced, and includes items such as chunky guacamole on ciabatta ($14.90), Nutella waffles ($16.90), pulled pork eggs Benedict ($17.90) and salmon omelette ($15.90). You can also get eggs on toast with the usual extras or the “Jumbo 224” big breakfast for $19.90.

Renay settled for the bacon & egg burger on a Turkish bun ($12.90) with tasted as good as it looked. Beautifully fresh, perfect egg and a generous serving of bacon. Very nice.

I was tempted by the chorizo stack (grilled chorizo on ciabatta toast with tomato, baby spinach, poached eggs, onion relish & feta – $18.90) but was in the mood for something sweet and chose the ricotta pancakes with caramelised banana, bacon, house-made burnt caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream ($16.90).

Beautiful presentation aside, this was a greatย dish – easily the nicest caramelised banana I’ve had, with a crisp sugar coatingย that many a creme brulee would envy. I found the pancakes a bitย dry, and would have preferred cream to ice cream but that’s a personal thing and there wasn’t really anything to complain about here.

So there we have it – another great addition to Perth’s ever-expanding cafe scene, although it remains to be seen just how many more we can sustain. It will also be interesting to see what effect the opening of Cafe 2 Twentyfourย has on Sapore Espresso, although we drove past after our breakfastย and it seemed to be very busy. Hopefully there’s enough customers for both.

There’s somethingย on the menu here to please everyone, it’s a nice place to eatย and you can have a gigantic milkshake for breakfast. What more couldย you want?
