News: Pirate Life Perth Turns 5 with a Major CBD Refurb and Big Birthday Line-Up

As the Murray Street precinct continues to evolve around RAC Arena and the newly opened ECU City campus, Pirate Life Perth is celebrating five years in the CBD with a significant refurbishment that sets the tone for its next era.

After half a decade of pouring beers, hosting live sport and late-night sessions, and welcoming thousands of Perth locals through its doors, the iconic brewery venue has undergone a transformation. The result is a lighter, more cohesive and intuitive venue that still feels unmistakably Pirate Life.

“We’ve watched how guests use the space over the past five years and really listened to what they love most,” said Andy Freeman, CEO of Sneakers & Jeans. “This refurbishment is not about changing who Pirate Life Perth is. It’s about refining the experience, opening the venue up to the city and investing in the next five years. We want it to feel more connected, more comfortable and more considered, while keeping that big personality people know us for.”

The most noticeable transformation is along Murray Street, where new alfresco seating and operable glazing now opens directly into the Main Brew Hall. The once solid divide between street and venue has been replaced with a seamless indoor and outdoor flow.

Inside, the layout has been thoughtfully refined with more comfortable booth seating, refreshed interiors, updated signage and new artwork throughout the precinct. The Pirate Life Bistro has evolved into a warmer, more relaxed dining destination with full table service, led by Chef Sofie Firman, who heads up the Pirate Life Perth precinct kitchen and was previously Head Chef at Varnish on King. The Backroom has been elevated into a high-energy sport and live entertainment space, while downstairs, Deadbeat continues to deliver its bold basement cocktail bar experience.

“Pirate Life Perth has always had multiple personalities,” said Adi Ruiz, Operations Manager at Sneakers & Jeans. “We’ve embraced that in this evolution. Each space now has a clearer identity and purpose, but they still feel connected. It’s a true choose-your-own-adventure venue. You can start with a casual beer at the bar, stay for dinner in The Bistro and head into The Backroom for live sport or a bit of friendly rivalry over arcade games, all without leaving the building.”

The team describes the refurbishment as bringing Pirate Life back to its roots by doubling down on bold personality, great beer and food worth sticking around for.

“Pirate Life Perth today is more than a brewery venue,” Freeman said. “It’s a cultural and social hub that brings together food, music, sport and craft. This refurbishment strengthens that positioning and allows the venue to move naturally from long lunches to live sport to late-night energy under one roof.”

“It’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also a signal to keep pushing forward,” Ruiz said. “We’re proud to be part of a precinct that’s gaining real momentum, and this refurbishment is about reinvesting in our community and the future of hospitality in the CBD.”

Pirate Life Perth will officially celebrate its fifth birthday on Saturday March 7 with a music line-up running from afternoon into late night, alongside a selection of limited birthday beers brewed by Head Brewer Dan Fiest.
