La Veen at King is situated in a heritage building on the corner of King & Wellington Streets, just on the outskirts of the Perth CBD. I’m lucky enough to work close by, and since opening last December it’s become my refuge from the stresses of the working day – I’ve been there just about every day for lunch, and some of the (consistently) best coffee I’ve had.
La Veen is open seven days a week – from 7am to 4pm on weekdays, 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
As you can see, no expense has been spared on the fitout. There’s always a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and the staff are very friendly.
The simple elegance of a large flat white, and only $4.50. Thankfully La Veen has resisted the temptation to charge some of the inflated prices you see around town.
La Veen’s house blend is from Five Senses, but they also feature “guest beans” from other roasteries including Proud Mary, Code Black and Pound Coffee
Saturday morning cappuccino. I can also recommend the iced coffee, which is made with an incredible amount of care and attention.
La Veen’s counter is dominated by the massive six group, second generation Synesso Hydra.
Cold drip coffee makes a refreshing change, and is well worth trying even if the concept seems a little odd. There’s three very different blends on offer here.
The food at La Veen is just as good as the coffee. The menu changes regularly, always featuring an interesting selection of reasonably priced breakfast & lunch dishes. Construction is underway in the building next door to expand the dining room in preparation to start dinner service in the next few months, which is a very exciting prospect indeed.
A very special dessert that I was lucky enough to try, featuring chocolate jaffa cake, strawberries and freeze-dried raspberries. Simply amazing, but not on the menu…yet.
Red curry chicken sandwich with asian slaw – an early menu item that I enjoyed on several occasions!
Amazing pork belly, apparently soon to return to the lunch menu…
Fancy something lighter? No problem
My new favourite light lunch – a warm bagel with bacon & chorizo cream cheese (only $5.50).
What else can I say? I’m hoping that the photographs speak for themselves. What I will say is that I’ve sampled most of the items on the menu, and continue to go back for lunch and coffee every day that I’m at work. I can’t wait for dinner service to start.
Enough said.

Great photos. I really love La Veen – such a great addition to the city.
