Independent local bakeries seems to be becoming less common these days, no doubt thanks to the spread of franchises such as Brumby’s and Bakers Delight – not that there’s anything wrong with either of those – but today I’m taking a look at The Mandurah Bakery & Hot Bread shop, a small bakery that is open 7 days a week. It’s a great place to visit for breakfast or lunch, or just to pick up some yummy items to feed the family.
When you walk into the bakery there’s plenty to look at – the cabinet full of cakes in front of you, the fresh bread behind the counter, the sandwich bar, the pie & sausage roll cabinet, the bain marie full of tempting hot goodies…now what do I fancy today…?
As you can see, there’s plenty of fresh bread to choose from. They also make sandwiches & rolls to order, and there’s usually a good selection of pre-made rolls in the fridge if you’re in a hurry.
There’s always contains an assortment of hot goodies, including mini pizzas, quiches, crumbed sausages and toasted sandwiches, which are great for a hot breakfast on the way to work (although I’m yet to try the eggs benedict toasted sandwich…) At lunch time you can get hamburgers, schnitzel rolls, hot dogs and so on. There’s also a selection of pies & sausage rolls, so there’s plenty of choice.
These scones are incredible, and at $2 hard to resist.
Anyone for a doughnut? The cakes are made with fresh cream and cost around the $2-$3 mark so they’re great value for money.
Thankfully this looks (and tastes!) better than my efforts.
The pictures speak for themselves – whether you’re a local or just passing through, the Mandurah Bakery & Hot Bread Shop is well worth a visit. The food is great, service is friendly and – best of all – the prices are very reasonable.
