Morsels & The Shelf Life
It’s been a busy week…

It’s been a busy week…

So much has happened over the last week, it’s hard to know where to start. How about with something controversial…

  • President Obama puts Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard in her place by describing Vegemite as “horrible“. Maybe he should try “my first Vegemite”. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I prefer Marmite. (Obama Foodorama)
  • Cupcake induced rage causes woman to trash bakery. ‘Nuff said. (Eater National)
  • New “scorpion chile” is declared the world’s hottest. Expect a rough night on the toilet after cooking with that one. (Slashfood)
  • The United Nations recommends that we eat more insects and less meat. Check out this Taiwanese take on the whole thing. (Eater National)

  • Top Chef All-Stars, episode 12 roundup. Antonia uses her psychic powers then discovers that she and Mike are cousins. Weird. (Eater National). For a slightly more intellectual view, check out this piece from the LA Times.
  • …and the cast of Top Chef Masters Season 3 with Curtis Stone has been announced, it starts on April 6. (Bravo)
  • The molecular gastronomists among us can rejoice at the latest device that can enhance the dining experience by offering the “authentic smell of the countryside” – cow fart in a can. (metro.co.uk)

….and in a busy week for McDonald’s:

Ronald McDonald

  • Melbourne suburb Knoxfield tells McDonald’s to “burger off” and forces the chain to scrap its plans to open a restaurant in the area. Apparently, residents feared “bogans in their ‘doof doof’ cars all hours of the night, rubbish all over the place and the stench of fries and fake meat wafting through our streets.” I didn’t know you had to be a bogan to enjoy fake meat? (news.com.au)
  • It’s all over for Ronald McDonald after 48 years of loyal service. (Eater National)
  • McDonald’s Australia launches new “M Selections” menu. No fair, the new shakes don’t go on sale until April 13. I’ll probably try the NYC Benedict Bagel but none of the burgers really grab me. (QSR Media)
  • McDonald’s Malaysia introduces Family Breakfast Box meals. Looks like a fine breakfast to me, what’s everyone else having? (Burger Business)
