This week in (very) limited edition fast food we head to Japan for the “Jewelry” line of Quarter Pounders from McDonald’s. These burgers are well and truly limited, being available in small quantities only on three separate Saturdays in July.
First on July 6th we have the “Gold Ring Quarter Pounder”, with a thick ring of pineapple, a slab of bacon, fruity barbecue sauce (made with apple puree & pineapple juice) and Monterey Jack cheese on a kaiser bun. That looks rather good, I’d be queuing up for that.
On July 13th we get the “Black Diamond Quarter Pounder” with truffle sauce, grilled mushrooms, onions and emmental cheese on a brioche bun. Hmm. I’ve never had truffle in a fast-food context and I’m not keen to try it. Surely it can’t be good.
And finally, things get really weird on July 20th with the “Ruby Spark Quarter Pounder”, with no less than five slices of chorizo, guacamole, garlic puree, “seasoned” onions and a surely-unnecessarily-ridged slice of pepper jack cheese on a French style bun. Some of that appeals…some, not so much. “Please enjoy the contrast of the chorizo and exciting mellow avocado sauce”. Okay then.
Each of these burgers comes in a special box & bag to commemorate the event. Better book your plane tickets now!
