Morsels & The Shelf Life

Family Friendly Dining at its Best; Visting Cubby Cafe at 11 Acre Farm

Last weekend we visited Cubby Cafe at 11 Acre Farm, a year-old south-of-the-river venue. It’s located in Forrestdale, about ten minutes from the Armadale Rd freeway exit.

The farm has been under construction since 2019, with a strong focus on sustainability, family and community. I’ll let my pictures speak to the experience; there’s over 300 animals (including llamas that don’t pose when requested), a play-village, vintage trucks to climb on, and a hut selling Simmo’s ice cream to unsuspecting parents.

The all-day menu takes a welcome diversion from the norm, with the usual suspects alongside dishes using ingredients such as farm vegetables, Wagin duck and Kalbarri mackerel.

The dishes pictured:

  • La Delizia Latticini stracciatella, brioche, charred broccolini, blistered cherry tomatoes, puffed rice
  • Barbaro Butchers guanciale, 11 Acre Farm borlotti beans, herbed crostini, sofrito, sous vide egg

The service was very friendly, which is most important in a family-forward venue. Coffee is from Locale, a Melbourne roaster with a strong Perth presence and known for supporting its venues and baristas. The venue is licensed, which may come as a great relief to parents. Bookings are strongly recommended.

Cubby also offers events such as hot sauce workshops, olive curing classes and paddock-to-plate dinners. Keep an eye on their socials for more details.

The full story is too big to tell here; check out Cubby’s website orย Max Veenhuyzen’s excellent Good Food article for more.

Cubby is a delightful family destination that doesn’t compromise on food or coffee, and that alone makes it worth visiting. I see big things ahead for 11 Acre Farm, so get there for the bragging rights before your friends do.
