Lola's Filipino Diner in Vic Park is now serving breakfast on weekends from 9am-11am! The"ultimate Silog meal" with garlic rice and a choice of three proteins (including fried chicken and Al's house-made spam) is enough to satisfy the hungriest diner. The ube waffles are a sweet and savoury revelation, and there are even healthy options 😬 Swipe to see the menu. I'm always happy to see something different and creative in the Perth breakfast scene, and of course the food is always delicious at @lolas.filipinodiner 😋

Here's some pictures from my recent visit to Sal's Pasta Deli in Cottesloe, where I was treated to a made-from-scratch pasta lunch 😍 @salspasta Sal's Pasta makes fresh pasta from 6am daily in almost every variety you could want. Shapes and fillings change regularly. Sal's also sells ready-made sauces, lasagne (hot tip for an easy dinner) and many other fresh and pantry goods. Dine-in lunch is a great experience if you can secure a table (calling ahead is recommended). The menu is what they have to cook on the day, but you won't be disappointed whatever it is. Sal's Pasta also has a new retail outlet in Applecross.

Willi's is the new wine bar in the base of The Royal that officially opens this Wednesday at 11am. Here are some photos from the opening night. I'm expecting this to be a fantastic venue, and it will be hard to resist a sneaky visit when nearby. Something different for lunch today with this Nasi Babi Guling from the highly regarded Nasi Bali in Kenwick. I'm not overly familiar with Indonesian food, but there were great flavours and plenty of heat in this Balinese celebration of pork and pickled veg. I'm keen to return and try some of their other dishes. If you're missing authentic Balinese food, this is somewhere you should visit. It's only open a few days a week, so plan your visit carefully!

This morning's breakfast was a rather good Brisket Muffin from Gryphon Smokehouse in the Swan Valley Settlers Markets. With beef burnt ends, a cheddar crisp, a fried egg, onion jam, mayo & bbq sauce on a toasted English muffin this was a tasty start to the day 🤤 @gshbbq @swansettlersmarket @theswanvalley

IGA Purple Bra Day in support of Breast Cancer Care WA is on Friday September 24, and Mary Street Bakery have created a special doughnut to help raise important funds. Available from 10am Saturday August 28 only at Tucker Fresh IGA stores, this blueberry glazed doughnut is topped with a white chocolate crumb and rose petals. All proceeds go to Breast Cancer Care WA, a charity that provides free of charge nursing, counselling and financial support to people facing breast cancer. @breastcancercarewa @tucker_fresh_iga_dalkeith

Today's snack find was these Doritos branded "crunch nuts" from Coles. Not sure where the "crunch" comes from, they're just peanuts 🤔 Anyway, the potential excitement comes from the promise of "Flamin' Hot" flavour. Swipe to see the terrifying colour and you'll get the general idea - there's balanced heat & spice, and there's just plain silly. Guess which these are. There's nothing nice about these unless you're the kind of person who likes to eat cheap chilli powder by the spoonful. Don't bother 🤦🤪👎 Morsels Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

I'm very sad that there's not many citrus-y yogurts out there, I really don't understand what people have against oranges 🍊😭

Anyway, I was excited to see this new Gippsland Dairy variety (and yes, I know pineapple isn't citrus but it does the job). I really liked this. Quality, creamy yogurt and the "caramelised" pineapple was sweetened so it wasn't just sharp on sharp 🍍⁠@gippslanddairy

This is available at Woolworths and independent supermarkets. I could only find it in the big size (I think it was a quite steep $7) but if you're a pineapple fan you'll probably get through the lot so it's worth trying. Morsels Rating: ★★★★☆

The new varieties of Shapes keep coming, and these two are particularly good in that they actually taste like the flavour on the box! Hungry Jack's latest creation is the Outlaw Big Jack, presumably meant to be a cross between an Outlaw Whopper and a Big Jack. It contains two patties, bacon, cheese, BBQ Sauce, lettuce, a middle bun layer and - wait for it - creamy peppercorn sauce @hungryjacksau This is a good example of making something different for the sake of it and spoiling an otherwise good idea. The sauce is fine in isolation but it just doesn't belong on a burger. The standard Whopper tomato sauce & mayo combo would be much better. Oh, and it's quite small. You'd think Colin Fassnidge has better things to do than create new varieties of crisp, but apparently not. He's worked with Red Rock on three new flavours: - beef brisket with caramelised onion
- crispy pork belly with apple sauce
- Portuguese chicken with lemon & oregano In the interests of producing more content, I'm going to be more selective in my testing. From this range I chose the crispy pork belly. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. There was a definite smell and taste of pork - not sure about the apple - and the crunch helped with the porky effect. A much better effort than most limited editions, and I may even try the other two. Worth a shot👍 Morsels Rating: ★★★★☆ @cfassnidge @redrockdeli_aus

Tried Domino's new "Sausage Sizzle" pizza (bbq beef sausage, grilled onion, mozzarella, bbq base, topped with tomato sauce & mustard).

This piece has twice as much sausage as all the other pieces. Maybe they're making a comment that people always add too much sauce.

If you're a lover of English Marmite (and no, not the horrible Australian one) then this is a truly magnificent creation. The chilli doesn't affect the characteristic flavour or texture, it's just a perfect heat that I can't get enough of 🤤 @marmite
.
And before you ask, I imported this myself and I'm not telling you how much it cost me. But it's only being made for six months and I'm sure it won't be my only jar 😭😭 Morsels Rating: ★★★★★

What do you need with odd flavoured crackers? Weird dips of course! The nature of these is given away in the name "What the Dip?!" And they're certainly unusual @blackswanfoods

I wasn't a fan of the cheeseburger. As seems to mostly be the case there's a vague sense of meat and cheese and an overriding pickle flavour. I'm not a big pickle person at the best of times.
.
The pulled pork reminded me of the Kraft onion and bacon dip from my childhood, which I didn't like but there never seemed to be another option (apart from the equally dubious French Onion, of course). Good for meaty nostalgia.
.
I always assumed Black Swan were from WA but it says they are from South Melbourne. Not sure how I feel about that 😬
.
It's nice to see some good attempts at flavouring and these are definitely worth a try if you're curious.

This week from the inventive folks at Darrell Lea we've got some mini dark chocolate peppermint Easter eggs! Not sure why it's party time, but anyway...
.
They're individually wrapped, and deliver precisely what is promised. The dark chocolate is of good quality and the peppermint flavour comes from candy shards, like a Peppermint Crisp. The kids probably won't like them 😜 Great job @darrelllea 😍

Picked up these ALDI "Vietnamese style" spring rolls for a lunch-ish snack, and cooked them in the air fryer because that's what we do now (and ALDI are kind enough to give you air fryer instructions).
.
They certainly looked the part and were nicely crunchy but the filling was more like a soft, mild, Asian-herby sausage roll.
.
Not what I was expecting, but by no means unpleasant. Dunk them in some serious chilli and you'll never know the difference.
.
I can't remember the exact cost - I think it was $3 something - and like many things ALDI it's hard to complain at the price @aldiaustralia

Public Service Announcement: approach with extreme caution ☣️😨 Whoever thought peanut butter and coffee in milk would be a good idea was clearly deranged, but not as much as whoever gave this the green light to enter production.
.
It's just horrible, and nothing like any peanut butter I've tasted. One mouthful was more than enough, and apart from slightly salty I'm hard pressed to describe it politely 🤢 Smells like marzipan mixed with milk that's slightly off.

I've been waiting for bottled curry sauce for years. I used to smuggle the HP one back when visiting the UK but they don't make it any more. There's a Heinz one but it just isn't the same.
