I was recently privileged to join a group of other writers and media to experience the new menu at Lontara, the Southeast Asian restaurant that forms part of the luxury Samphire Rottnest resort.

As you can see, we were very lucky with the weather and it was a glorious day, with smooth (but busy) ferry crossings in both directions.
It’s no surprise that we were well looked after with Russell Blaikie at the culinary helm, more than ably supported by exec chef Quim Hernandez and head chef Zack Fong in the kitchen.

The new Lontara menu can be seen above, and we were treated to a selection of dishes that I’ve listed below. My personal highlight was the char siu lamb shoulder, which could be pulled apart with a spoon and was deeply flavourful.

The spicy glazed eggplant was another favourite, as was the coconut sugar pavlova. But finding fault in anything was very difficult, especially in such a beautiful setting.

I returned to Rottnest later that week for another event, and enjoyed a solo dinner at Lontara. I’m happy to report that the nasi goreng raja with snow crab, sate daging sapi (Angus beef skewer) and pineapple spring rolls were also excellent.
Thanks to Russell, Molly, Pim, and the team at Lontara.
