Mary Street Bakery has pledged its support to Youth Focus Hawaiian Ride for Youth by joining forces with team Brookfield Rail 2, to raise funds and awareness about youth mental illness in WA. For every special Ride for Youth donut sold, Mary Street Bakery will donate $1 to the cause.

Youth Focus is an independent Western Australian organisation that works to support young people aged 12-25 with mental health issues and to prevent suicide. The Hawaiian Ride for Youth takes place from 21 – 25 March 2017 and will see more than 180 riders across 34 teams cycling almost 3,000 kilometres on three routes spanning from Albany to Perth. Riders will visit 23 schools promoting positive mental health awareness to more than 3,500 students.

“The thing I like most so far is the commitment shown by the riders and coaches. If you want to do something well in life, you need commitment and passion and all the riders and people behind the scenes have plenty of this,” Matthew Sevior of team Brookfield Rail 2 says. Mary Street Bakery co-owner, Paul Aron and long-time buddy Matthew Sevior have collaborated on this community campaign. They hope to see schools, businesses and
individuals all getting involved. Schools involved in the Ride for Youth donut drive will also receive a percentage back as a reward for their participation.

Paul Aron says, “We have all been affected directly or indirectly by youth suicide. Mary Street Bakery jumped at the opportunity to raise funds to help build awareness in our community by removing any negative stigma around youth mental health issues. Our aim is to raise between $5,000-$10,000 for team Brookfield Rail 2’s efforts in the Ride. We’ll need to sell a lot of donuts to get there so we urge everyone to share the link with friends and family and get involved. This is a great way to give something back – and get a donut in return!” Businesses, schools and individuals who are interested in showing support can register their interest through the online form.

The special Rainbow Jam Donut will be available in all three stores, including Highgate, West Leederville and QV1 between now and 31 March. Bulk orders for donuts through the drive can be a selection of any of Mary Street Bakery’s signature flavours.
